So, what the hell IS a Pararescuer?

My first book, DANGEROUS TERRITORY, released on August 4th 2014, is about a pararescuer who is send on a mission to rescue a lost reporter behind enemy lines in Afghanistan, only to find that they share a pretty sexy history… Dangerous Territory

But what IS a pararescuer? In the simplest terms they are special ops. Officially they are United States Special Operations Command and Air Combat Command operatives. It’s their job to rescue people. Rescue them from war zones, NASA launches, earthquakes, collapsed buildings. In fact they do a lot of work in the US as well as while deployed. The Pararescue creed is:

“It is my duty as a Pararescueman to save lives and to aid the injured. I will be prepared at all times to perform my assigned duties quickly and efficiently, placing these duties before personal desires and comforts. These things I do, that others may live.”

They go through hell-on-wheels training called “The Pipeline” or “The Superman School” the latter of which gives you some idea of how hard-core they are.

So where might you have already seen them?

If you’ve seen the movie The Perfect Storm they were the ones who attempted the rescue of the Andrea Gail crew.

Perfect storm

In Iron Man, they’re the ones that found Tony Stark when he’d managed to escape the Afghan warlord.

In Black Hawk Down, they were the ones who were shot at while they roped down to the crash site.

And my absolute favorite. If you’ve seen Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson, Cap’s new friend, Falcon, is a former pararescuer.  Go see this movie if you haven’t already!

The pararescue work is incredibly dangerous. And unfortunately a disproportionate number of them die in combat because of their utter selflessness on the battlefield. For more information as to how they look after the families left behind, please have a look at the Pararescue site That Others May Live.

Have you ever heard of the Pararescuers before now? What situation would you most like to be rescued from by a tough, sexy pararescuer? Best answers will win pararescue and book swag!

 DANGEROUS TERRITORY

A SEXY STRANGER
Flirting with danger is reporter Grace Grainger’s modus operandi. But she’s learned the hard way not to grow attached to the soldiers she’s embedded with in Afghanistan. To escape from her pain and loneliness, she fantasizes about the hot night she spent with a gorgeous stranger three years before in D.C. Grace never thought she’d see him again-let alone need him to rescue her . . .
AN EXPLOSIVE NIGHT
Air Force Master Sergeant Josh Travers knows journalists are nothing but trouble. So when he has to risk the lives of his team to save some reporter who’s been separated from her patrol, he’s not happy-until he recognizes her stunning eyes and delicious curves. Josh has never wanted a woman like he wants Grace. Even in an Afghan cave with a sandstorm and enemy troops closing in. This might be the end for both of them-or one hell of a beginning.

Dangerous Territory will be published by Forever Yours, an imprint of Grand Central Publishing, on August 4th 2014.

Okay, hold up…informative post, but you glossed over something incredibly important! Is that your COVER you’re showing off there in the upper left-hand corner?! For your debut NOVEL?!!! I love it, love it love it! I’m not sure how I’d like to be rescued, (I’m big on danger-avoidance), but I’m thinking Afghan cave might work!

I am such a sucker for a PJ. Did you see the PJ docuseries on Nat Geo last year? It was excellent. Oh and Cap 2 was awesome and definitely better than the first and I LOVE the actor who plays Sam. Me=Happy. LOVE the cover and I cannot wait for this book!!!

Thank you!! I did see the Nat Geo series…just heartbreaking and scary in equal parts. Also saw one on Green Berets which was also hard to watch. Fist bump on the Cap 2 love… I ❤ Sam harrrrd! Loved it when the Black Widow said "Oh, you didn't tell me he was a pararescuer…" like that explained everything 🙂
